Razer has reintroduced its Mako speaker line with two new compact desktop audio systems, combining stylish design, RGB lighting, and immersive sound tailored for gaming and desktop users. The Mako and Mako X incorporate advanced features like virtual surround sound and USB-C power, signalling a fresh shift in gaming audio accessories.
Razer has brought back its Mako speaker name after a long absence, launching two desktop audio systems that aim to combine compact design with gaming-focused features. The line consists of the Mako X and the larger Mako, both of which keep the rounded styling associated with the original model but move to a more conventional front-firing layout. According to Razer’s announcement, the revival is intended for desktop users who want a small speaker setup with RGB lighting and virtual surround processing.
The two models differ in both output and acoustic design. Razer says the Mako X uses a 2.0-channel configuration with custom-tuned 2.75-inch full-range drivers, delivering up to 30W RMS and 45W peak power, with response extending down to 60Hz. The Mako steps up to a 2.1-channel arrangement with a dedicated forward-firing 3.5-inch subwoofer, raising output to 40W RMS and 60W peak and lowering the frequency floor to 45Hz. The company also says both systems support virtual 7.1 surround sound and Razer Chroma RGB lighting, though the lighting treatment differs: the Mako X uses an underglow effect, while the standard Mako projects light rearwards.
Connectivity is broadly the same across the pair. Razer lists Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C and a 3.5mm audio input. Power is less conventional, however, because neither model ships with a standard mains adapter. Instead, the speakers rely on USB-C power, with Razer saying they can also run from a suitable high-wattage charger rated at 45W or above. In practice, that makes a USB-C connection to a PC the simplest setup for many buyers.
The Mako X will go on sale first, with availability beginning on 6 October and pricing set at RM449 in the Malaysian market. Razer says the regular Mako will follow in December, but has not yet disclosed local pricing. Other outlets reporting on the launch say European pricing for the larger model is expected to be higher, reflecting its extra subwoofer and more powerful output.
