SanDisk has launched two high-endurance microSD cards designed to withstand continuous recording, repeated overwriting and harsher conditions in dash cams and security cameras.
SanDisk has widened its storage range with the Guardian Series, a pair of high-endurance microSD cards aimed at dash cams and home security cameras that record continuously. The company says the new line is designed for devices that repeatedly overwrite footage, where ordinary cards can wear out more quickly or struggle in harsher operating conditions.
The series consists of the SANDISK Dash Cam Card and the SANDISK Security Cam Card. According to SanDisk’s announcement, both products come in capacities from 32GB to 512GB and support video capture up to 4K Ultra HD on compatible devices. The 512GB dash cam model has been tested to last for up to 40,000 hours of recorded driving, a figure that SanDisk presents as an endurance benchmark rather than a guarantee for every setup.
The Dash Cam Card is pitched at vehicle users who need storage that can cope with heat, humidity and long periods of operation. The Security Cam Card is aimed at indoor and outdoor surveillance, with SanDisk saying it is built to resist temperature extremes, water and dust. In practical terms, that makes the cards relevant not only for continuous recording, but also for systems that need to keep working through changing weather or periods of poor connectivity.
Local storage remains the main selling point. As cameras become more common for monitoring homes, vehicles and property, a memory card can provide a record that is still available if a cloud service is unavailable or a network connection drops. That said, how much footage a card can actually hold depends on several variables, including recording resolution, frame rate, compression settings and whether the camera records constantly or only when motion is detected.
SanDisk says the Guardian Series is on sale now through select retailers, with a United States suggested retail price starting at $28.99 for the 32GB version. Other outlets have reported local launch pricing in their own markets, but the company’s announcement only gives the US starting price and does not list full regional pricing for every capacity.
