Sharge’s crowdfunding campaign for the Disk Pro 2 nears completion, introducing a highly adaptable portable SSD with detachable cables, removable storage, and a quieter, smarter cooling system, promising greater user control and capacity expansion.
Sharge is nearing the end of its crowdfunding campaign for the Disk Pro 2, a follow-up to its earlier portable SSD and hub that tries to correct the most obvious frustrations of the first model. The new device keeps the same basic idea , storage combined with expansion ports and active cooling , but adds a detachable cable, removable storage and a fan that can now be switched off. PetaPixel reported that the campaign had already attracted roughly $740,000 in pledges, close to the more than $760,000 raised by the original Disk Pro. The first version impressed reviewers on value, but its fixed SSD, crowded layout and noisy cooling system left room for improvement.
According to Sharge’s product information, the Disk Pro 2 uses a user-supplied M.2 NVMe drive rather than built-in flash storage, with support for capacities up to 8TB. That is a notable shift from the original Disk Pro, which offered up to 4TB of integrated storage. The company says the enclosure is designed to remain compact despite the changes, keeping the focus on portability while giving users more flexibility over speed, capacity and replacement.
Cooling is the most visible change. Sharge says the revised “Ice Storm” fan can reach 12,000rpm, up from 10,000rpm on the earlier model, and is intended to reduce SSD temperatures by 30%. In auto mode, the fan is meant to stay at a lower speed below 50C, shut itself off below 25C and ramp up as temperatures rise. Unlike the first Disk Pro, which could not fully silence its fan, the Disk Pro 2 now includes an off setting for quieter use.
The port layout has also been expanded. Sharge now includes SD and microSD card slots, alongside two USB-C 3.2 ports, HDMI 2.1 and USB-A 3.0, taking the total to six ports. That is an upgrade from the original model’s four-port setup and its integrated USB-C cable. The company expects to begin shipping the Disk Pro 2 to backers by October.
