Apple has become only the second listed company to end a trading day valued above $5 trillion, defying a wider sell-off in major technology shares.
Apple has become only the second listed company to finish a trading day with a market value above $5 trillion, according to market data compiled after the New York close on 14 October 2026. The shares ended the session at $342.96, lifting the company’s valuation to about $5.005 trillion and marking the first time it has closed above that threshold. Nvidia was the first company to reach the same level, and remains ahead on market value.
The move follows Apple’s earlier, brief intraday touch of the $5 trillion mark in July, when the stock climbed past that level during trading but finished the day below it. Market data shows that the latest advance was enough to turn a fleeting milestone into a closing one, with Apple ending the session up 0.50%. At the close, the company was valued at roughly $5.005 trillion.
The gain also stood out because it came during a weak session for large technology shares. Oracle fell sharply, while Meta, Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet also declined. Apple moved in the opposite direction, underlining investor demand for the stock even as the wider sector came under pressure.
The rally has come a little more than a month after John Ternus succeeded Tim Cook as chief executive, and it arrives just ahead of iPhone Duo pre-orders. Apple is also due to report fiscal fourth-quarter results on 2 November 2026, a release that will give investors a clearer reading on how the company is handling higher component costs and recent price increases in hardware. AppleInsider said the latest valuation surge has been linked to strong demand for the iPhone 18 Pro, while company-market-cap data show Apple now ranks as the world’s second most valuable company, behind Nvidia.
