Following its traditional September schedule, Apple is anticipated to launch the iPhone 18 Pro with evolutionary upgrades, possible under-screen Face ID, and a new release pattern that could include a foldable model next year, disrupting its usual product cycle.
Apple is expected to keep to its familiar September rhythm for the iPhone 18 Pro, with reports pointing to a launch event in the first half of the month and Wednesday, September 9, emerging as the most commonly cited date. That timing matters because it fits Apple’s long-running product cycle, gives suppliers time to ramp up production and places the new phones in shops before the crucial holiday quarter, according to reporting from Forbes and supply-chain summaries from MacRumors and PhoneArena.
The expected September window also reflects the practical demands of Apple’s manufacturing network. The company relies on custom silicon, which means chip production must be scheduled well in advance with TSMC, while global shipping and retail distribution must be lined up months ahead of a major release. Analysts and industry reports say that a September unveiling helps Apple reserve semiconductor capacity, manage logistics and align the launch with the annual upgrade cycle that drives many iPhone purchases.
Rumours about the hardware point to meaningful but evolutionary changes. MacRumors says the iPhone 18 Pro is now expected to feature a partially under-screen Face ID system rather than a fully hidden one, which would leave a smaller Dynamic Island. The same reporting points to a 6.3-inch display, a more efficient LTPO+ panel, variable aperture for at least one rear camera and Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which is expected to use TSMC’s 2-nanometre process. Other possible changes include revised Ceramic Shield support for MagSafe charging and new colour options.
Pricing remains less certain. Early estimates cited by Economic Times and other reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro could start between about $1,099 and $1,299, with the Pro Max ranging from roughly $1,299 to $1,499. Some reports, however, say Apple may choose to absorb higher manufacturing costs rather than pass on the full increase to buyers. Apple has not confirmed any of the pricing or feature details.
The launch may also be part of a broader shift in Apple’s release strategy. MacRumors, TechRadar and PhoneArena report that Apple could split its iPhone 18 lineup, unveiling the Pro models and a new foldable iPhone in September 2026 while holding back the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e until spring 2027. If that plan holds, Apple would be moving closer to the staggered release pattern used by some rivals, while preserving September for its most profitable phones and the sales surge that follows.
