MediaTek unveils the Dimensity 9500s, a flagship smartphone chip built on 3nm technology that aims to boost performance, gaming, and AI capabilities while significantly improving power efficiency for high-end Android devices.
MediaTek has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone chip, the Dimensity 9500s, positioning it as a core part of the next wave of premium Android devices. The company says the new silicon is built on a 3nm process and uses an all-big-core CPU design, a combination intended to lift performance while cutting power draw. It is also expected to appear in high-end phones from Vivo and Oppo, though regional availability will depend on local launch plans.
The headline promise is efficiency. MediaTek says the chip can improve power use by as much as 61% under heavy multitasking, while also delivering a clear gain in speed over the previous generation. That matters because the real test for a flagship processor is not just peak benchmarks, but how well it holds up during gaming, camera use and prolonged app switching without driving up heat or draining the battery too quickly.
Gaming support is a major part of the pitch. According to MediaTek, the Dimensity 9500s includes an Immortalis-G925 graphics unit with ray tracing support, bringing more realistic lighting and reflections to mobile titles while keeping power use in check. The company also says the chip’s NPU has been tuned for generative reasoning and multimodal AI models, which should speed up on-device tasks such as live photo editing, content summaries and translation features that can work without constant cloud access.
MediaTek has also highlighted imaging improvements, including support for 4K video capture at 240 frames per second, a specification aimed at high-end slow-motion recording. The broader message is that flagship phones built around this chip should feel more capable in everyday use: cooler under load, more responsive for AI tools and more versatile for photography and gaming. A separate Dimensity 8500 chip has also been introduced for premium devices, with MediaTek saying it offers a 7% performance uplift and up to 12% more memory bandwidth on a 4nm process.
