A leaked Geekbench benchmark suggests Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is oscillating between performance expectations, with early tests revealing a narrow edge over Apple’s A20 Pro in multi-core scores but lagging in single-core performance. The final specifications remain awaited at the Snapdragon Summit 2026, amidst ongoing debates about hardware optimisation and thermal management.
Qualcomm’s next flagship mobile chip appears to be arriving in a more complex position than its marketing name suggests. A benchmark for a prototype believed to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 has surfaced ahead of the company’s formal launch plans, with results that indicate a narrow lead over Apple’s A20 Pro in multi-core testing but a deficit in single-core performance. The leak also suggests Qualcomm may settle on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 name after earlier references to a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
According to the posted Geekbench data, the sample uses an eight-core CPU arranged in a 2+3+3 configuration. The two fastest cores are said to run at 5.10GHz, the next three at 4.00GHz and the remaining three at 3.74GHz. In the test, the chip reportedly scored 4,327 in single-core performance and 12,873 in multi-core work. That would place it behind Apple’s A20 Pro on single-threaded tasks, while giving Qualcomm a slight edge when all cores are active.
The result should be treated cautiously. Gizmochina reported an earlier Geekbench appearance for the same chip under the SM8975 identifier inside an unannounced iQOO device, but that sample delivered far weaker numbers, with 3,434 in single-core and 9,334 in multi-core tests. PhoneArena noted that such early results often come from engineering prototypes and may not reflect retail hardware, particularly before final tuning and thermal optimisation.
That caveat matters because Qualcomm is also expected to lean on hardware-level thermal management. The leaked description points to a Heat Pass Block system designed to move heat away from the processor more quickly, while DRAM would remain stacked above the chip rather than adopting Apple’s layout in the A20 Pro. Other reports suggest the Snapdragon could still lead rival Android silicon, with one benchmark comparison placing it ahead of MediaTek’s expected Dimensity 9600 Pro. Qualcomm is expected to reveal the final specifications at Snapdragon Summit 2026, where two variants are anticipated.
