Samsung prepares for major redesign of Galaxy S27 series with new chip, battery and privacy upgrades

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 series is set to introduce a significant redesign, including a broader model range, new silicon strategies, enhanced battery capacity, and innovative privacy features amid ongoing speculation and provisional details.

Samsung’s next flagship line-up is emerging as one of the company’s most significant redesigns in years, with leaks pointing to a broader family, new chip strategy and a heavier emphasis on battery efficiency and privacy features. Several reports now suggest that Samsung is preparing four models for 2027: the Galaxy S27, S27+, S27 Pro and S27 Ultra, with the new Pro tier intended to bridge the gap between the Plus and Ultra models. That would mark a notable shift from Samsung’s long-running three-phone structure.

The most closely watched change is silicon. Geeky Gadgets reports that Samsung is considering a global Qualcomm rollout for the S27 Ultra and the new S27 Pro, using a custom Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro for Galaxy built on a 2nm process. For the regular S27 and S27+, the company is expected to keep a split strategy with Exynos 2700 in some markets. If that proves accurate, Samsung would be trying to balance performance gains, thermal control and regional supply flexibility in a way it has not always managed cleanly in past generations.

Camera rumours are more mixed. Some leaks say the S27 Ultra may simplify its rear array by dropping the long-standing 10MP 3x telephoto lens, relying instead on a 200MP main sensor and a 50MP periscope unit for zoom work. Other reports, however, point to a broader camera refresh for the Pro and Ultra, including Sony’s IMX855 ultrawide sensor and a 16MP selfie camera, while a separate line of speculation suggests the base S27 and S27+ could even use a Sony-made 50MP main sensor. The result is a picture of a launch still in flux, with conflicting component reports indicating that Samsung has not settled every detail.

Battery changes appear more concrete. Tom’s Guide says the S27 Ultra could move to a 5,700mAh silicon-carbon battery, a notable jump for Samsung’s Ultra line, while Geeky Gadgets suggests the Pro and Ultra may both use silicon-carbon cells to achieve higher capacity without making the phones thicker. That would fit Samsung’s wider effort to keep large-screen flagships slimmer while improving endurance, even if higher component costs could complicate pricing. Qualcomm’s expected chip price increases add another potential pressure point.

There is also evidence that Samsung is widening its hardware privacy features. Reports indicate that the company wants to extend its hardware-level Privacy Display beyond the most expensive models, using OLED stack engineering to make side-angle viewing unreadable without affecting straight-on clarity. If true, that would give Samsung a more distinct premium feature set at a time when the rest of the industry is still leaning heavily on software-based privacy filters. For now, though, the launch remains distant: the series is still expected in early 2027, and much of the current detail remains provisional.
