SYSGO and Kontron enhance embedded software support with new PikeOS BSP for rugged Kontron VX3060

SYSGO and Kontron have expanded their partnership by releasing a validated Board Support Package for the Kontron VX3060, enabling safer, more secure deployments of high-performance, rugged industrial and defence applications with flexible software and hardware integration.

SYSGO and Kontron have broadened their embedded-software partnership with a validated Board Support Package for the Kontron VX3060, a rugged 3U VPX single-board computer built around 11th-generation Intel Core processors. The companies said the package gives customers a supported route to run PikeOS on the board, creating what they describe as a European hardware-and-software base for safety-critical, security-sensitive and mission-critical systems.

The move is aimed at developers in defence, transport and industrial automation, where platform qualification, deterministic behaviour and long service life are often as important as raw performance. According to SYSGO and Kontron, the BSP covers the main interfaces needed for bring-up and application work, including Ethernet, UART, thermal sensors, voltage monitoring and mass storage. On request, the stack can also be extended with Trusted Platform Module support and Secure Boot for tighter device integrity and cyber-resilience controls.

Kontron says the VX3060 is designed for demanding rugged deployments and combines Intel Xe graphics, support for up to 32GB of ECC memory and a wide range of I/O options, including USB-C, M.2 and XMC. The board also supports high-speed networking features such as 1G and 10G Ethernet, with 2.5G, 25G and time-sensitive networking capabilities listed by the company, making it suitable for mixed workloads where data movement and timing predictability both matter.

The software layer is equally significant. PikeOS can operate as a hypervisor or as a combined hypervisor and real-time operating system, allowing several workloads with different criticality levels to run on the same platform while remaining isolated from one another. In practice, that means real-time control, Linux services and other application environments can coexist on the same hardware, a model that can reduce system complexity, footprint, power use and lifecycle cost.

Kontron’s product manager, Sébastien Vitre, said customers increasingly expect embedded platforms to arrive with mature software support, while SYSGO’s Carsten Beck said the collaboration underscores the two companies’ shared European technology stack. The BSP is available immediately, and both companies position it as a way to shorten integration work and speed the path to certified mixed-criticality deployments.
