TCL and Motorola are enhancing their market positions with new products that focus on premium specifications like high-refresh-rate screens, advanced cameras, stylus support, and long-term software updates, signalling a shift towards feature-rich mid-range and premium segments.
TCL and Motorola are moving to strengthen their positions in the smart device market with new products that lean on high-end specifications and competitive pricing. TCL has detailed the P80 Pro smartphone, while Motorola has moved ahead with the Moto Pad 70 Pro tablet, a model that is already on sale in India, according to reports from Gadgets 360, LiveMint and Gizmochina.
The TCL P80 Pro is built around a 6.83-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1,280 x 2,766 pixels. It runs Android 16 and uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Elite processor with Mali-G615 MC2 graphics. Memory options include 6GB and 8GB of RAM, while storage goes up to 512GB and can be expanded with a microSDXC card. TCL has also fitted a dual rear camera system led by a 50-megapixel main sensor, plus a 32-megapixel front camera, with rear video capture supported at 4K and 30 frames per second.
Other hardware features include dual SIM support, NFC, a fingerprint reader, satellite positioning and a USB Type-C 2.0 port. The handset uses a 5,800mAh battery and supports fast charging. GSM Arena says the phone will be sold in blue and gold, with pricing starting at about €350, placing it in a competitive mid-range bracket where display quality and storage capacity often matter as much as raw performance.
Motorola’s Moto Pad 70 Pro is aimed at a more premium tablet segment. The device measures 296.5mm by 191.9mm by 6.2mm and weighs 598g. It carries a 13-inch IPS LCD panel with a 3.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 800 nits of brightness, and it supports HDR and Dolby Vision. The tablet is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip, runs Android 16 and comes with the Moto Pen Pro stylus. Reports from Gizmochina, LiveMint and Gadgets 360 say it also includes a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, storage expandable by up to 2TB via microSD card and a 10,200mAh battery, although charging figures differ between sources, with some citing 45W and others 68W wired charging.
Taken together, the two launches show how manufacturers are trying to compete on screen quality, battery size, stylus support and software updates rather than on price alone. Motorola has also underlined long-term software support for the tablet, with updates promised through Android 18 and security patches until 2030, according to Gizmochina, while the broader product strategy points to a market where premium features are increasingly filtering into lower-cost devices.
