Xiaomi introduces the Redmi 17 and Redmi 17 5G in the Netherlands and Belgium, emphasising long battery life, expansive displays, and affordable performance, reflecting a broader shift towards endurance-driven smartphones in 2026.
Xiaomi has brought the REDMI 17 series to the Netherlands and Belgium, pitching the phones at buyers who want long battery life, a large screen and basic everyday performance without a premium price tag. The range consists of the REDMI 17 and REDMI 17 5G, both built around a 7,500mAh battery, a 6.9-inch display and a 50MP AI dual-camera system.
Xiaomi says the standard model can deliver up to 28 hours of video playback, 91 hours of audio or 46 hours of talk time from a full charge. The 5G version is rated even higher for endurance, with up to 109 hours of Bluetooth audio and 53 hours of calling. Both handsets support 45W turbo charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging, so they can also top up accessories or other devices when needed.
The display is designed to adapt its refresh rate between 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz, depending on what is on screen. Xiaomi says the panel carries triple TÜV Rheinland eye-comfort certification and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, while the phones themselves have IP64 protection against dust and splashes. The design also includes a flat display, a matte metal frame and an RGB light system that signals calls, notifications and charging.
The regular REDMI 17 runs on MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra chip and Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3, with up to 8GB of RAM including memory extension. The REDMI 17 5G uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Mobile Platform and comes in Deep Blue, Black and Vivid Orange, the last of which uses a textured PU leather back. Both versions include dual stereo speakers and support simultaneous recording with the front and rear cameras. Xiaomi is selling the line through major retail partners across Benelux, including MediaMarkt, Coolblue, Bol.com, Krëfel, Fnac, Vanden Borre, Carrefour, Proximus, Orange and its own online store.
The launch fits a broader pattern in Xiaomi’s 2026 smartphone strategy. Recent reports from Gadgets 360 and Gizmochina show the company leaning heavily on larger batteries and bigger displays across both Redmi and Xiaomi-branded phones, including the Redmi Note 17 in China and the flagship Xiaomi 17 range. The REDMI 17 series follows that formula closely, with endurance and practicality taking priority over headline-grabbing camera or processor upgrades.
