A distributor leak hints at a low-cost Redmi 17C 5G with a large battery, modest camera setup, and subtle design updates, suggesting Xiaomi may be reworking existing models for regional markets.
Xiaomi’s Redmi range may soon gain another low-cost model after a distributor in Luxembourg published what appears to be a full listing for the Redmi 17C 5G before launch. The leak includes images and specifications, giving an unusually complete picture of the handset while Xiaomi has yet to confirm it officially. The timing matters because the company has only just introduced the Redmi 17 5G and Redmi 17 4G worldwide.
The leaked details point to a large, basic handset aimed at buyers who value battery life and price over sharpness or premium materials. It is said to use a 6.9-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, alongside a body measuring 171.56mm by 79.47mm by 8.05mm and weighing about 211g. Colour options are listed as brown, purple and black, with the brown version apparently finished in vegan leather.
Inside, the Redmi 17C 5G is expected to run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 chip, paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. A microSD card slot reportedly supports expansion up to 1TB. The phone is also said to carry a 6,000mAh battery, although the leak does not state the wired charging rate. Software would be handled by Xiaomi HyperOS 3.
Cameras look modest but functional. The rear setup is said to be led by a 50-megapixel main sensor with autofocus and an f/1.8 aperture, backed by a second camera, while the front camera is listed at 8 megapixels with an f/2.0 aperture. Connectivity features reportedly include 5G, dual SIM support, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, USB-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack, with a side-mounted fingerprint reader and face unlock handling security.
The leak also suggests that Xiaomi may be doing little more than reworking the previous generation. Separate reports on the Redmi 17C launched in China describe a nearly identical budget phone with a 6.88-inch 120Hz display, HyperOS 3, and either 64GB or 128GB of storage, while Geekbench listings for the 5G version indicate hardware closely matching the Redmi 15C 5G and POCO C85 5G. If those reports are accurate, the main changes for this model may be its styling, software and regional branding rather than its core specification.
Xiaomi has not disclosed pricing or a release date for the Redmi 17C 5G. For now, the handset looks set to join the company’s expanding entry-level line-up as another near-duplicate model built around familiar components and a larger battery.
