Some Samsung Galaxy users say a One UI 9 installation leaves their phones stuck on an error screen, while offline restarts and Safe Mode offer a possible workaround.
Some Samsung Galaxy owners are reporting that a recent One UI 9 update leaves their phones stuck on an error screen instead of showing the normal post-installation changelog, according to SamMobile. The problem appears to block access to the device even after repeated restarts, suggesting that the fault is not a simple temporary glitch but a more persistent update-related lockout.
A workaround that has been circulating among users involves forcing a restart, then booting into Safe Mode, enabling Airplane Mode and restarting again. SamMobile says this sequence has restored access for affected devices. Android Authority has separately reported that some users have also run into an XML “Access Denied” error during the setup phase, with going fully offline, including switching off both Wi-Fi and mobile data, helping some people move past the failure screen.
The reports point to a server-side safeguard that Samsung is believed to have introduced to prevent unwanted firmware releases, according to SamMobile and an industry source cited by the site. Samsung has not publicly confirmed that specific explanation. However, the practical advice emerging from the reports is straightforward: users should avoid interrupting the update process, and those trying to prevent the issue altogether may wish to switch on Airplane Mode before starting the installation.
Samsung’s own support guidance remains the more cautious route. The company recommends backing up important data regularly through Smart Switch, ensuring the battery is adequately charged before any software update and avoiding use of the device during installation. It also advises against disconnecting a USB link mid-update. For users considering a rollback after a failed installation, other reports note that there is no simple in-built revert option, and that returning to an older firmware version can require more advanced flashing tools.
