Some Samsung Galaxy phones reportedly become stuck after installing One UI 9, with users needing a Safe Mode and Airplane Mode workaround to regain access.
Some Samsung Galaxy owners appear to be running into a post-update lockout after installing One UI 9, with the handset showing an error screen rather than the usual summary of changes. According to SamMobile, the problem leaves affected devices unable to proceed normally after installation, and a standard reboot does not clear the blockage. Reports shared on Reddit suggest the phone remains stuck until a more specific recovery sequence is used.
The workaround reported by SamMobile begins with a forced restart using the power key and volume down button. Once the Samsung logo appears, users are told to hold volume down again to enter Safe Mode. From there, Airplane Mode must be switched on before performing another normal restart, after which mobile data and Wi-Fi can be re-enabled manually. Android Authority and other reports describe a similar pattern, although some users have said that taking the device fully offline also helps in certain cases.
The apparent trigger is a server-side measure intended to limit firmware leaks, according to SamMobile, which cited an industry insider posting on X. That explanation has not been officially confirmed by Samsung, however, and the company has not yet issued a public statement setting out the cause or a permanent remedy. For now, the reports indicate that the issue is linked to the update process itself rather than to a general hardware fault.
For users preparing to install a Samsung update, the practical advice remains conventional but important: back up personal data first, keep the battery sufficiently charged and avoid interrupting the installation. Samsung support recommends using Smart Switch to save content to a computer or external storage, and says the device should not be used during the update or disconnected from any USB link until the process is complete. A separate report from SamMobile also warned Galaxy A57 owners to hold off on One UI 9.0 until more is known, underlining that the problem may affect some models more than others.
