Tesla introduces new cabin preconditioning tutorial for first-time owners amid increasing focus on weather-ready features

Tesla has launched a short tutorial for new owners on using cabin climate controls effectively, emphasising the importance of preconditioning for comfort and efficiency in all weather conditions, with new features extending battery-heating for winter charging.

Tesla has published a short tutorial aimed at new owners, focusing on the cabin climate controls that are most useful in everyday driving. The video walks through checking interior temperature, warming or cooling the cabin before departure, adjusting seat heaters and clearing the windscreen. For first-time drivers, the main lesson is simple: the car can be made comfortable before you get in, rather than after you start driving.

That matters in both cold and hot weather. Tesla’s own winter guidance says preconditioning can warm the battery and cabin before departure, and the app or touchscreen can be used to schedule it in advance. The company also recommends leaving the vehicle plugged in during colder conditions where possible, so that preconditioning does not draw heavily on range. In summer, Tesla points owners to the same climate controls, alongside features such as Cabin Overheat Protection, to limit excessive heat inside the vehicle.

For daily use, the system is more than a comfort setting. A warmed cabin can remove frost from the windscreen and save time on winter mornings, while battery preconditioning can help the car operate more efficiently on the first miles of a journey. Tesla’s scheduled departure tools can also align charging and climate control, and the climate screen supports separate temperature settings for driver and passenger. The company says similar battery-heating functions were extended to Supercharging in cold conditions in late 2024, underlining how central preconditioning has become to the wider ownership experience.
