New updates in Windows 11 empower users to personalise their experience by turning off or removing features like OneDrive, Copilot, Widgets, Phone Link, Xbox, and Windows Search, making the OS cleaner and more efficient.
Many Windows 11 installations arrive with more than most people need. According to Microsoft support material, OneDrive can be turned off or removed without deleting local files, while Copilot can also be uninstalled on newer builds and its keyboard shortcut reassigned in Settings. That makes it possible to strip back parts of the interface that are convenient for Microsoft but unnecessary for some users.
One of the clearest candidates is OneDrive. Microsoft says users can unlink the PC, pause syncing or remove the app entirely, depending on whether they want to keep cloud storage but stop automatic integration, or abandon the service altogether. Phone Link and Xbox features are more deeply tied into the system, but they are still optional for many users. Microsoft’s own support approach and third-party guides show that cross-device features can be reduced through Settings, while gaming components such as Game Mode, Xbox apps and the Xbox Game Bar can be removed or disabled if the PC is not being used for games.
